Louis is very widely considered to be the big brother of the creatures, considering his leadership skills and tendencies to be friendly in a strange, expectantly uncaring ways. He is often seen with a cigarette in his mouth much to Oliver’s dismay. He was taken from his mother practically at birth, and was shanghaied as a cabin boy, along with his friends, and considered brothers, André and Gunter.

As a child, he was very caring to his brothers and frighteningly loyal. Though he would be whipped when being told to separate from his group, he often wouldn’t listen in the slightest, and would rather suffer for years than let his friends bear pain. For this reason, almost every inch of his back is covered with whipping scars from his old captain.

Once escaping the pirate ship, Louis found a village where a childless woman of their kind offered to adopt them. He agreed almost immediately, resulting in his team of brothers to break up. Because of this though, he was there when the neighboring village was attacked and few, including Oliver and Matt, came to him and became more brothers for him. He was also with Oliver when they found Allen and brought him home to his biological brother, Matt.

Louis taught Matt French.

He, Oliver, Al and Matt have been together through many wars, in which one of them Al says that Louis had saved his life. They were in a jeep crash where Louis was thrown from it and Al was knocked out. Louis dragged him out of the crash and accidentally clawed up his chest when grabbing the front of Al’s shirt to pull him out.

As an adult, he does some engineering on his free time, which he has lots of because of his retirement from wars and such. He doesn’t really think too highly of himself, knowing himself to be a “Bad guy” in the eyes of most human, considering he will kill children with no remorse. Anyone he would consider a friend would be treated with great respect from him, with occasional sarcasm of course.

His pet, Matthew, turns out to be the Human twin of Matt (who really hated the idea of being compared to a “Squeamish Little Squirt”). Louis found Matthew on the side of the sidewalk at night in the rain. At the time he was just curious of why he was out there crying this late, so he asked what was wrong and the boy told him that his parents kicked him out from the heat of an argument.

Louis took pity on him, and convinced him to stay with him with the phrase “There are worst things out there than me”. This only proved that’s he doesn’t think himself to be the lowest of the low. He kept Matthew in all night then made him his pet in the morning against his will. Matthew was internally fine with it, even happy to the fact that Louis could see him and cared for him, but he was ticked off when he found out Louis had drank his blood without permission.

Louis also suffers from PTSD which he takes some medication for, but rarely sleeps anyways from fear of nightmares. He is also known for not being able to get drunk off of blood very easy, if not at all according to Oliver.
